In ~400 of its 890 stores, Sears is allowing consumers with smartphones to purchase items and skip the checkout line. With the use of QR codes, shoppers scan the item to purchase and add to the shopping cart via Sears mobile e-commerce site. When ready to checkout, the consumer can complete the order right on the smartphone, skip the checkout line and collect the merchandise at a designated pickup area.
While this is a bit different than the new check out process by Apple at the Apple Store, I definitely like Sears’ focus on consumer convenience.
