CIO magazine editor, Gary Beach, predicts the arrival of the “Age of Mobility” and explains that “every 15 years, a big technology shift changes IT forever”, predicting that “mobility will define the next era”. The author then goes on to explain how mainframes, minicomputers, personal computer and the Internet have each changed the landscape of corporate IT and that “the next-generation workforce—as well as the workforce you already have—wants access to data and applications from anywhere, wants to collaborate with colleagues and customers easily, and wants to use smartphones, tablets and laptops to do it”.
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that simply having an app in the app store is no longer sufficient for a mobile strategy, and companies that want to be prepared for the changing landscape will develop strategies that align mobility approach with their overall e-commerce and corporate direction.
