A recent study by Limelight Networks stresses the importance for retailers of not only having a mobile optimized commerce site, but ensuring it is a positive experience for their customers.

It is no longer sufficient to wrap a mobile renderer around an existing site (if it ever was), today’s consumer expects fast page loads to be provided while still serving up detailed product images and information. With 71% of customers using mobile to augment their in store experience, retailers need to provide this level of detail to their customers, or risk that consumers will look to their competitors to fill the void.

As these customers become more familiar with using mobile technology, they are demanding a higher quality, more efficient experience. 80% of consumers indicated that they would abandon a transaction on an mCommerce site if it wasn’t a positive experience, and half of those would give up on the brand entirely to shop elsewhere. This should serve as an important caveat to retailers rushing to provide a mobile solution and will hopefully encourage them to invest the time and resources to do it right.
