There’s a new market for in-flight entertainment thanks to mobile and tablets.

French airliner OpenSkies opted to skip the $3 million investment for a seat-back video system per Boing 757 plane.  Instead, they bought nearly 500 iPads and preloaded them with an array of video to hand out to passengers.

Other airlines are following a similar suit with new and old aircraft.  For a new plane, the wiring alone for a seat-back video system can cost the airline around $90,000 per year in fuel costs due to the extra weight of all that cable.   And with the user-experience of tablets (iPad, Galaxy Tab, etc.), airlines are finding unique and better ways to serve customers with in-flight services.

What industry is next for a mobile transformation?
